My internet went out again, so I was watching some Top Gear I had on my hard drive. I watched the episode with the 1M, now I really want one.

That is one of the best episodes. They do a great job of illustrating how fun that car obviously is. I’ve only seen it once but I remember seeing the wheel spin back so smoothly when exiting a slide...perfect

It really is a fantastic episode . One of the thing BMW M does, maybe did, was steering. The feel in that era of M cars was  just sublime.

Gotta agree with “did”, as far as the non (actual M) cars go. I’ve only had one short drive in an F chassis M3 and it was good but I didn’t notice the steering the way I did the E90 the first time I drove it. The electric rack on all of the others is trash.

The electric rack on the F82 wasn’t terrible, but it lacked the feel of the E90. The early F30 cars were pretty trash, but the recent ones feel miles better, at least I think they do. Not as wonderful as the hydraulic steering, but better than when they first switched.

Life hack for getting 90% of a 1M for 20% of the cost. Get a 135i with the M sport package, flash tune it, add 1M /M3 control arms and busings, and add 18" light weight wheels without runflats.  Top it off with an LSD and you have similar driving experience.  You won’t have the wider fenders, and the tighter M rack, but it will be close and be one fun little coupe.

I mean yeah, my dad has a 135is which is basically a 1M lite. I guess it goes back to 2014 when I had 50k to spend on a car and it was either a 1M or an E90, and obviously I went with the E90.

I dropped that kind of dough on my house.  I loved my 2011 128i 6 MT base when I had it.  Towards the end of having it I was ready to move on.  Maintenance got me.

I was 24 and had wanted an M car for over 10 years at that point, so I figured while I had the money and no one to tell me otherwise I got it. At the time, I knew the 1M was going to go up in value but the E90 was the car I really wanted. Pretty sure I made the right decision.

I’m not saying you didn’t. It is always better to go with the car you want long term.  Especially when you don’t have to ask permission from anyone.

I have a friend that has a White 1M with 42K miles that he is getting ready to put on Bring-a-Trailer. We are  located on the East coast if it matters.

I wish, but I don’t have the funds like I used to. I would also have to sell my E90, which is something I’m not really interested in.
